Volunteer Guide

Welcome to Grayslist. Volunteers are the heart of our community, helping us work together with care, efficiency, and inclusion. This guide is here to help you understand your role and the shared values that shape everything we do. Through cooperation and trust, we build a self-reliant community based on mutual aid, restorative justice, and collective care.

Core Values

Mutual Aid
Our community thrives through reciprocal support. Every act of help, no matter how small, strengthens the well-being of all.

Inclusivity
We welcome everyone. Every resident has a place here, and every background, ability, and perspective enriches our shared work.

Restorative Justice
We address conflict with empathy and accountability, seeking to repair harm rather than punish.

Direct Action
We act together to meet needs directly. We do not wait for outside systems to solve problems we can solve ourselves.

Transparency and Trust
We practice clear communication, honesty, and accountability to maintain trust across our community.

Volunteer Commitments

Grayslist volunteers lead by example. We show up for one another with reliability, empathy, and care.
Be honest about your availability, respect the privacy of others, and stay open to learning new skills. Every volunteer plays a part in creating the culture we all depend on.

Restorative Practices

When conflict arises, Grayslist uses restorative justice to rebuild trust. Volunteers may help organize restorative circles, support those involved in creating accountability agreements, or model active listening and empathy in daily interactions. Justice here begins with understanding and continues through repair.

Support and Resources

Grayslist offers training, mentorship, and communication tools to help volunteers succeed. Workshops on mutual aid, restorative practice, and community organizing are open to all. Feedback is always welcome, as we grow and improve together.
